For software selection, every alternative is screened according to 4 criteria:

• Evaluate the software provider in terms of viability
• Evaluate the software in terms of functions and technical offers
• Evaluate the commercial offer
• Evaluate the people that are going to support the implementation
  

In some cases, it is important to do a "proof of concept" and establish a pilot before making the decision to go for a specific software.
